Can new Italian basketball sensation Awudu Abass play in the NBA?

Those at the top of Italian basketball say it’s a resounding slam-dunk “yes”.

Abass, who turned 22 on Tuesday, played an instrumental role in guiding Italy to its second European Men’s U20 Championship crown in 2013.

Following his successful rookie campaign, Abass was named team captain of Pallacanestro Cantù.

“I think he’s the best talent that’s come in a long time.” said his coach Stefano Sacripanti.

Italy is already riding high with four NBA players – Andrea Bargnani (New York Knicks), Marco Belinelli (San Antonio Spurs), Luigi Datome (Detroit Pistons) Danilo Gallinari (Denver Nuggets).
